Cambell Soup bag?

Are you thinking how un-glam the name of this bag is? It's the reversible tote from before, with a twist.
I used to use a template to make these. Then I lost it and created another and lost that one. Then I came across this sewing theme fabric but there is only one fat quarter of it. My previous ones were larger than a fat quarter. I decided to then draw the pattern in, adjusting it here and there, and with the help of a Campbell soup can, completed the pattern.

I'll share the how-to with you some day, or maybe if you leave a comment. It's quite simple actually and I'm wondering why I didn't think of it sooner. You can adjust it to fit any size but there are some rules of thumb that you would want to watch out for,

Have a blessed day!

ps: the moon hasn't set, or at least 10 minutes ago when I spotted it in the clear blue sky. Pretty!

DEAR season again!

16 Nov 2013 to 31 Jan 2014
It's that time of the year again when you can Drop Everything And Read. During this DEAR season, you can borrow double the number of books. What best to make than a library bag :-)
Fully lined and reversible (other side is red and white stripes) and made from cotton linen. I've included both shoulder and hand cary handles. There are no pockets for this because it's difficult to stuff books into a bag and pockets get in the way. Instead, there's a little D-ring near the handles that I can use to hook on a wristlet or keys or whatever. Fun!

Have a blessed morning!

Playing catch up

Haven't been updating this blog in a while. Had some posts on Facebook though :-)
Made these from the Prima Deli's box. Think it was DD's PC13 from there. I like this cake box 'cos the cardboard's rather thick and laminated on one side. I'm running out of antique bronze O-wires. Will have to use baby blue and pink soon.

iPad sleeve. First one ever. I find it funny 'cos one of the reasons for starting this blogshop was to earn enough to buy an iPad. After a while, we didn't track the revenue/expenses. The desire for an iPad waned. T'was only when DD needed one for school that we finally bought one. LOL!

These are the Chan Luu-inspired leather wrapped bracelets that are the rage now. Simple to make but so tedious 'cos I used slippery beading string to wrap. You can't see from this pic but I used a 2-hole flower button as the catch. Notice the beads? The larger ones cost less than half those on the right. Don't know why, not familiar with these type of beads.

Zipper pencil cases. Simple in design but lots of manual work to ensure alignment.

CNY mandarin orange carrier.

Fuchsia crochet tote with leather handles. 100% cotton yarn

Blue/green crochet tote with leather handles. Cotton/linen blend yarn.

Grabbed this floral fat quarter when I saw it. Pic doesn't do justice to it's colours (I don't know how to fix it to show the true colours). Paired it with pink gingham. Both are cotton/linen blend so I had a hard time flipping the tote right side out. This is a different size from the other reversible totes 'cos I only had 1 fat quarter. The others are slightly wider than half a fat quarter.

Have a blessed day!

Flurry....

Made two pairs of baby shoes from patterns available on the internet. I've lost the links but I'll add them to this post when I find them again. I like the Mary Janes above and I think I'll add ribbons next time so that they can be reversible too, like the ones below.
This is another of the twin body but the middle pocket has a zip this time. Bright red cover flap was quilted and attached with metal spring snaps.
Of the 4 items in this post, this took the longest time. I think I've made something like this before but I can't remember. It took a longer time 'cos of the quilting and the hand-sewing. I made the bias strip for binding myself so that took up some time too. I think this is the last Teacher's Day pressie but I'm not sure.

Have a blessed evening!

How far can you turn your head?

Did you see the snowy owl in HP turning its head around? Owls can turn their cat-like heads between 180 - 270 degrees. Other interesting facts here.
Made this reversible tissue case on a whim. Would that be too many owls? Most of the time owls can be found on Japanese fabrics but this is from Timeless Treasures. Can you count how many different owls there are on each side, LOL?

Have a blessed day!

Going solo

This Monday and Tuesday BunnyBags, Tobias' Shoppe and Tiffany's Shoppe will be at NUS Central Forum. It's the first solo bazaar after several with Little Statement who kindly offered to share their table at KKH with me.

This time round, I'll be having a 3ft x 3ft table and 2 chairs. I'm not sure which stall I'll be at 'cos there are some changes. I'll know when I'm there, LOL!
These are some mini totes. They are reversible so you can use the polka dots side on the outside. All are different and I might just make some more depending on my mood and time available. Yes, I have these already cut and placed somewhere in the blackhole sewing basket. These were made last year but I can't remember why I've not brought them to KKH bazaars or listed them in Tiffany's Shoppe. Odd.

Do drop by if you're near NUS.

See you and have a blessed day!

WIPs

These are the WIPs that I'm packing for tomorrow afternoon to sew at the pool while I wait for DD as she goes for her swimming lesson. I might include some yoyos but these are reversible drawstring bags and wristlets. I'll have many brightly coloured wristlets coming up. I'm happy that I managed to find matching zips :-)  I also put my potpourri sachet in so the FOs will smell nicer.

Have a blessed weekend!

Heads I like this, tails I like this too!

I don't usually buy fat quarter bundles but I like the way they're packaged in coordinating colours or prints. Almost foolproof, no? :-)

This reversible drawstring bag was made from 3 different prints. I had fun piecing the 2 pics together too to form 1 'bag'. I finally used this double-sided cotton ribbon but I'm wondering if a cord would be nicer? I'll try with the next bag.

Have a blessed day!

For this Taylor Swift fan

This Cresyn headphones came with it's own drawstring bag. Pretty slick one in black in a material that feels like soft PVC. I thought it looked pretty cool, this black/white headphones in the black drawstring with a minimal Cresyn stamp in the centre of the bag but DD had other ideas. She chose this cotton/linen blend with her favourite green squirrel and paired it with a solid green cotton. It's reversible by the way, so she can have it all green if she flips it the other way out.

I like the 2-in-1 looks with one bag and I'm gonna make some more and post them in Tiffany's Shoppe :-)

Have a blessed day!

Doggy dreams

Meet Hoppy who's modeling Toby's new pet bed made just in time for the coming Chinese New Year. Reversible with the same oxford cotton print on both sides just with a blue / grey background. Interfaced with 9oz batting to cushion the tiled floor and side walls are stuffed with resilient fibre filling.
Sweet dreams and have a blessed day!

Waiting patiently

I need to wait for DS and DD this afternoon. They'll be attending TeenXcite and then we'll be attending the next service 'cos we'll be witnessing a friend's baptism. I could go to the library to read since I've not had much time to read recently but I packed this box of stuff to sew just in case the sewing itch starts. I pack such boxes to the pool sometimes. Nothing quite so relaxing as sewing blind stitches and finishing off an item.
The items in today's box are meant for Tobias' Shoppe. I also included the plastic packaging and tag besides the needle, thread (bobbin) and thread cutter, buried beneath all these.
Aside, DD cooked lunch for us all by herself today :-)
Have a blessed day!

Double happiness

tissue case (14Dec2011)

I found these 2 fabrics in my fabric treasury recently. I know there is at least one more Christmas-themed fabric somewhere. Maybe I’ll find it next year…LOL!

These are fully reversible tissue cases. My previous ones were as well, but normally I let the outside fabric overhang so you don’t see the lining peeking out like for these two.

Which side do you prefer?

Have a blessed Christmas!

Update: found another two red and green fabrics, from the Wrap It Up! collection :-)

tissue case (14Dec2011a)

These two were made from super combed cotton grown in US. Somehow they remind me of kimonos rather than snowflakes.

What do you think?

Announcing…

Tobias' Shoppe

DS and DD are setting up their own blogshop.

I think it’s a good learning opportunity for them since they’re doing most of the work, ie. setting up the shop, pricing, policies, shipping, packing, descriptions, marketing, photos (though I helped this round) etc. My part is just to supply the products to sell and give advice, if they ask.

As an encouragement, they’re splitting the revenue. They’ll have to tithe and pay for shipping and other incidentals but they’re welcome to use what’s available at home.

Would you encourage and show them your support, too, by signing up for the newsletter, helping to share this or buying something… LOL?

Thanks in advance!

Have a blessed day :-)

Taking stock

In a month’s time, I’ll be celebrating this blog’s 1st birthday. Any suggestions on how I can share this joy with you? Yup, November’s birthday giveaway should be something special. I hope…LOL!

I had a look at the orders list and these are the top 3 most requested items from the 20+ different ones that I’ve made previously.

rev tote (5Oct2011)

  1. Reversible tote – 16%
  2. Triangle pencil case – 14%
  3. Wristlet – 14%

I expected the tote to be near the top since it was requested many times. The triangle pencil case too. I didn’t expect the wristlet to be there though…LOL!

This list doesn’t correspond to what I’ve sewn though. There are many items that I sew on a whim that are not an order. No complaints there since I like to sew :-).

Anyway, these are the latest reversible totes made from medium weight Japanese and Korean fabrics.

Have a blessed day!

Should I?

Was contemplating taking pre-orders for certain ocassions like Teacher's Day and Christmas. That way I can pace myself out and not rush for orders as the dates draw near. I'm wondering whether this one is for Teacher's Day. I didn't ask. She must know that I take sooooo long to fulfil orders that she requested them earlier. Well, even if it's not and it's for jiemei, I understand that too :-)
These reversible totes must be made from medium or heavier weight fabrics to be able to hold it's structure and not flop here and there. Some can stand on their own if you prop it in a certain way. However, it gets really tough flipping right side out when the fabrics are thicker :-( Tiring.
Made these from Japanese and Korean imported cotton, linen and cotton/linen blends.
Which one do you like?
Have a blessed day!

United nations

Before I go fabric shopping again, I decided to do a quick stock take of what fabrics I have on hand. I buy in bulk to get the deep discounts but this has led to a huge mess inventory of odd-shaped pieces of fabric. I didn't know how much fabric I had but I decided to make a flat patchwork tote out of unique squares (4.5cm x 4.5cm).
112 squares later I decided to stop even though I have more fabric still that I didn't cut squares from. LOL! Fabrics were from Japan, Korea, US, Australia and I don't know where. Used the final gifted cotton webbing for this tote. Plain for the patchwork and printed cherries for the linen / cherry side. Included a patch pocket from cherry fabric as well as a cut-out zip compartment which has a pocket inside as well as a pen slip. DD chose the bear zipper pull. It's cute and double-sided so you get the bear front on both sides. And it's solid metal so it's heavier than usual.
Have a blessed day!

ps: I wonder how much fabric I really have...hmmmm.....
pps: sorry for the washed out look. Don't know why the pics are like that, maybe 'cos of the hazy overcast sky? The colours are much richer than they look :-)
ppps: I just realised that I put the same patchwork side in the pic though I took both sides. LOL! Maybe I'll retake and give you richer colours, ah?

Capture every moment

I realised that I didn't take pics of every single item I made. Completed ones, that is. There were some that I made in a hurry and delivered quickly. There were some I made and simply forgot to take a pic. There were some that were similar and so I decided, why take? Then again, this is a hobby, not an itemised audit. LOL! So I share with you some pics out of the few I made recently :-)

Have a blessed day!

Raining dogs

It's been raining and raining the past few days, sometimes heavily, sometimes so poetically with the drops just fluttering down (this we saw while waiting for the bus to Teen Xcite on Saturday, at Buona Vista). I just thank God that I get to stay indoors most of the time.
It's been a while since the last giveaway so I decided to give this reversible tote away. Base is about 5" x 4" with height of 11" to top of handles. Oxford cotton on both sides with doggy prints on one and white dots on mint on the other.
To stand a chance to win this, you'll have to indicate your interest in one of the following ways:
