Mum taught me how to sew when I was young. I remember either reading a lot or crafting during my childhood. I remember reading craft books too, besides thrillers and mysteries. In this day and age, the libraries have improved with wide selection of books, and, with the internet, tutorials are readily available. I learnt through these as well as self-experimenting.
This is not a home-business. It's my hobby.
That's why some my prices are so ridiculously low if you start comparing them with other handmade stuff. I like to think that I offer same or even better materials at same or even better workmanship. I'm not interested in the profit margin though it helps. Many an item is priced almost at cost price. Please do remember that other things like shipping and wrapping costs add up too. I'm more interested in the doing so, if you buy more of what I make, I get to buy more and better materials. Cool!
That's also why I take a long time in fulfilling customised orders. While I try to meet most of such requests, there are many times when something catches my eye and I'm off tangent to go experiment. I guess you can tell by the myriad of crafting I blog about.
So, please continue to support my craft exploration and know that you're buying quality items at a fraction of the cost elsewhere.
Thank you and God bless you!
ps: feel free to make a price comparison. I'll gladly pay you the difference if you can show me the same handmade item sold cheaper elsewhere. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised :-)
- What materials do you use to make the bags? I buy mostly cotton or linen fabrics. Sometimes when the print appeals to me, I buy it anyway, without knowing what makeup it is. The selvege helps at times but not always; even Japanese import fabrics have selveges. I believe these are colourfast and won't run when thrown into the washing machine to be washed with other clothes. It is cloth after all. Some bags come with zips or snaps or other hardware. These should be fine in the washing machine too. I know the snaps come with a CPSIA clearance. I'm not currently using any thrifted / recycled material though I fully support the green movement.
- If I see the bag I like, how do I buy it? Please send me an email (bunnybag {at} ymail.com). Do be patient with me in responding as I have other responsibilities, like taking care of my 2 'bunnies' - DS and DD. Payment via bank transfer can be arranged.
- If I see something I like but not the size, can you make one just like it? While I hoard fabrics I do not have much of any single print. Some I buy only in 1 yard pieces or smaller. Do send me an email (bunnybag {at} ymail.com) so I can check it out for you. If I have enough material, please also understand that I'm unable to make to your measurements exactly. Handmade bags have their character, no?
- Why do your bags cost less than other handmade bags? Well, the thing is, I like to source for and buy fabric in bulk and get discounts wherever possible. I like to stretch my dollar and pass on these savings to you. Some fabrics, eg. Sanrio, are licensed so there's nothing I can do about that. Controlled pricing. Rest assured that cheaper bags does not mean lower quality bags.
- What 'brand' is your bag; why do you have no labels? I considered having labels to identify my projects but DD requested that I not include. Well, I can think of many reason why not - lower cost (since I won't have to print/sew these labels), doesn't block the fabric if label is on the exterior, doesn't snag on contents if label is in the interior. Besides, if you know of something good, won't you want to share it with your friends? [At this juncture, I thank God for my supporters out there who've overwhelmed me with initial orders. You know who you are - thank you too!]
