What's your favourite colour?

I like yellow, DS likes red and DD likes green.
I paired this yellow canvas with a brown one so that the dirt doesn't show up so easily when placed on the floor. There are two big pockets in front and two at the back. One panel of pockets inside means lots of compartments to put all your stuff :-)
I was a bit hesitant to use silver rivets and snaps 'cos I thought brass ones would be nicer but I only had silver hardware for the strap so that determined the colour. Turned out rather well, IMHO. :-)

I only quilt in straight lines

I seem to be quilting more these days. These are thinner than honey bun strips. I cut the jelly roll ones that I had and just started sewing them together. DD asked me what I was going to make and I didn't think of anything in particular and therein lies the problem. How long should these strips be? If I were making a book cover, it'd be one of the standards sizes ... A5, A6 etc. Or a pouch would be limited by the zip length, or perhaps not. Card cases would depend on the size of cards. You get the idea.
I just pieced them and quilted.
Then I found the key organizer. The metal thingy with the 6 loops for attaching keys?
Key pouch it was then. I wanted to add a bit of colour so that's why there's a coin pouch. It's too slim for cards but good enough to stuff folded up notes.
Finally DD has a bag to replace her usual for church. It's the middle one. The one on the right was supposed to be it but it was too small for her bible and other stuff. She brought it today and her friend asked her if I made it. Turns out, of all the times that someone asked her about the stuff that DD has, there's only one item that they asked her where she bought it. Most of the time they asked if I made it. I was joking with DD whether I should have a label 'My Mother Made This' or M3T.
I'm glad she used it today :-)

Bee very happy :-)

DD's newest pouch and it's not green, LOL!
She asked for a pouch that's the size of the dinner plate. We just had dinner then so DS glady obliged and washed and dried one plate for me so I could use it as a template.
Bee-themed jelly roll strips and fully lined and bound with linen.
These pouches are a fair bit of work but I like the results. :-)

Flurry....

Made two pairs of baby shoes from patterns available on the internet. I've lost the links but I'll add them to this post when I find them again. I like the Mary Janes above and I think I'll add ribbons next time so that they can be reversible too, like the ones below.
This is another of the twin body but the middle pocket has a zip this time. Bright red cover flap was quilted and attached with metal spring snaps.
Of the 4 items in this post, this took the longest time. I think I've made something like this before but I can't remember. It took a longer time 'cos of the quilting and the hand-sewing. I made the bias strip for binding myself so that took up some time too. I think this is the last Teacher's Day pressie but I'm not sure.

Have a blessed evening!

Seeing dots

I didn't realise I have so much linen. I also didn't realise that these dots are not regularly spaced. Oh well :-)
I first tried to reverse engineer and make a similar pouch last year. I could complete it but it looked terrible :-( Didn't make it to the blog, LOL! This was based on a purchased pattern and I realised that I was just a bit off...if I had persisted, I'd figured it out. Oh well :-)
This is a prelude to what I wanted to make actually, which is a clutch that has a zip in the middle. I think I can make it in the same way but let's see.

Splashproof

It was supposed to be a quick trip to Chinatown to restock my batting supply. I thought I had enough but there are just so many types of batting, in terms of material, thickness and whether there's adhesive. Since I was there, I detoured to another shop and caught sight of this laminated material rolled up and stuck in a box in the corner and I bought two rolls :-)
Made two pencil cases. The salesgirl at the shop thought I'd be making a tote. She suggested I reinforce the seams with binding. I was thinking smaller items actually. Maybe later, if there's enough for a tote.
Blue zip's flat and lined with cotton. Magenta zip has triangle sides and a base so it can stand. I added a large jump ring and charm 'cos the zipper pull seems too tiny. Maybe I'll do that for the blue zip too.

Have a blessed day!

Happiness

comes in small packages...as small as these snaps :-)
I've had these snaps for eons and the tools from few months back. Somehow I didn't put two and two together till today and I'm so loving the result. I practised with a few snaps and they were a cinch to put on. I'm gonna make more stuff to put snaps on them.
Actually, I only remembered them 'cos I wanted to go buy antique brass snaps 'cos I had the tools. Now I'll have both shiny silver and antique brass (if I can find them and if I get there before the shop closes).

Have a blessed long weekend!

Sewing on a rainy day

T'was raining for about an hour this morning. I thought the dark clouds was due to the haze till it got darker and windier and it poured!
Made this quilted clutch/sling bag using two of the fat quarters I bought at Spotlight a couple of months ago. Didn't have this in mind when I bought the fabrics (few more that I've yet to get started on) but I think it turned out OK. Now I'll just have to wait for feedback from its owner.
Quilted body and flap with the new closure that I like so much. Panel of pockets inside with 2 pockets and 2 pen slips. Zippered pocket inside against the back with a heart zipper pull.

Have a blessed day!

Afternote: If you're wondering why there's no strap, that's 'cos it's sharing a strap with the earlier clutch/sling bag.

Bears vs bunnies

The bears don't come with the pouch. They're not needed to prop it up either 'cos I've put stabilizer on the cotton-linen exterior so that the boxy pouch can stand on its own. There're actually 3 bears, small, medium and large. I've yet to name them. I can't remember where they came from, only that one of them was redeemed from West Mall during some festive season with a coupon without a purchase. Cool! Well, we do shop there often though I don't think we bought anything that day. LOL!
But I digress. This boxy zipper pouch has cotton-linen blend fabric on the outside and green/white polka dot fabric as lining.
Just a thought, maybe I should use bunnies rather than bears...this being BunnyBags.blogspot.com. *grin*
OK, bears for now, till I find cute bunnies willing to pose for me.

Have a blessed day!

Green stuff

DD chose this in addition to her clutch/sling bag.
I once saw this pattern but it was made using a juice carton. Here it's interfaced on both sides of the exterior and lining so it's stiff and can hold the shape when it's folded.
DD wanted two green snaps but I thought the red would provide a better contrast so there's one red and one green. I think I'll use spring snaps for future ones.

Have a blessed day!

Cheering up DD

DD's ill. Fever of 38.6, taken at the clinic this morning. It's 2 days to the PSLE oral and I decided to cheer her up by making this sling bag. I gave her a choice, sling bag or pouch. She chose sling bag. I decided that since she's into clutches, I'd make a clutch with a detachable strap so she can use it either as a sling bag or a clutch. She chose the strap too. I didn't have the antique bronze parts for a matching sling but I had 2 readymade straps. The other one that she didn't choose has a brown webbing. Well, her preference.
She hasn't attached the bear zipper pull yet 'cos of the drowsy meds. That's for the zippered pocket inside (back). The other side inside has a panel of 5 pockets. There's another huge one just under the flap.
Oh, and I like this flap :-)
2 reasons - it's the first time I'm using this lock closure and also 'cos it's quilted and shaped like an envelope flap. Maybe I'll make more of these :-)

Materials : denim (exterior), oxford cotton (interior)

Have a blessed day!

Afternote: DD's fever broke after her long nap in the afternoon. Thanks for your prayers :-)

Just a bit more before the long weekend

DD and I made these adjustable rings.
Mine's the bee and hers are the heart and flower.
We'll be making more of these after some orders and long weekend.
Or more likely, after PSLE.
*grin*

Happy National Day!

Happy National Day

Here are some pics of what I've been making recently.
Byzantine bookmarks with anodized aluminium rings and charms.

Antique bronze bookmarks - Full Persian on the left and Byzantine on the right.
For the most important book in the world :-)
These Byzantine star keychains remind me of the song that goes like...
There are five stars arising out of the stormy sea...

Happy National Day!

National colours

I'm looking forward to 9 August.
We'll be going to the Promontory @ Marina Bay for the National Day Parade screening and fireworks. Perhaps next year we'll get tickets to the Grandstand but it'll be nice at the Promontory too.
Made these as an early National Day gift using red and white Toho seed beads and silver tone jump rings and earring hooks.
I'm making a red and white bracelet too. It's WIP 'cos I'm still trying to figure out if I can add a bit of white frosted beads where the moon and stars are supposed to be. More on that soon.
Have a blessed evening!

Finally something different?

After bracelets and chokers, I've finally made some matching earrings :-)
I used readymade ear hooks though but the chainmaille weaves are mine.
Left to right:
Silver tone Byzantine weave earrings
Gunmetal Byzantine weave earrings
Silver tone barrel weave earrings
Gunmetal barrel weave earrings

Cheers!

Make a mark!

DS used to fold dog ears. I don't like dog ears. I'll remove them if I see them on a library book. I much prefer to remember the page number or use a bookmark.
This is DD's request. She chose the spine, the weave and the charm. This is the larger version (and thicker) of the spine. There were plain ones in silver, gunmetal and bronze, zig-zag ones even but she chose this one with the sun and stars detail.
I'm waiting for her to finish reading this book. She's read it 3 times already and going to finish reading the 4th time soon. I'm wondering what's so captivating about this book?

Have a blessed Sunday!
