Round and round

I don't crochet very fast 'cos I don't hold the crochet needle in the 'proper' way. I get it done but not in very fluid motions like some :-)

Anyway, I found this acrylic yarn at Spotlight. At 100g, this means less ends to join and a smoother result. This backpack took less than 200g. I used mostly half-double stitches crocheted in the round. No pattern, just imagination and some rework, especially for the flap to be nice and flat with minimal bumps. The closure is a slim and shiny slide lock that I found at Jalan Sultan years ago. It's still rather shiny :-)

I need to make another one. This time it'll be in just 1 colour. I'll need to see if I can find a similar slide lock too. Maybe I just might make one for myself :-)

Plasticky

Bought a stack of plasticky canvas recently. Sure reminds me of Cath Kidston material, in terms of print and feel. It's the thickest material I've sewn. Not the toughest though. That would be faux leather 'cos it wouldn't cooperate with my sewing machine's presser foot and feeder dogs.

I've not quite thought of what I want to make with these yet but made this to try out sewing it. It's so stiff that it's tough to flip proper side out. On the upside, it holds its shape very well. :-)

Simplest item to make was an unlined pencil case. Added a label to the front and a charm to the zipper pull.

Yesterday was Earth Day

I didn't do anything particularly green yesterday 'cos it was Earth Day. I did, however, make this as a response to an article in today's newspapers that the supermarts will be charging for plastic bags.

While I'm a supporter of BYOB, I wonder how I'm going to settle the problem of mandatory by law bagging of rubbish 'cos I've been using the supermart plastic bags.

Anyway...

I've had this Debi Hron for Timeless Treasures fabric for a while. It's a bit bright for me but I thought I'd use it for this fold-away shopper bag. It's unlined but with no exposed / raw seams. All stress points have been reinforced so that it can take heavy loads. The pocket is just right for folding the body and handles away and tucking into. I think I'll put up instructions later if there's a request.

Giveaway : Handmade notebooks with the Lorax theme

I received this set of stickers of Dr Seuss' The Lorax and decided to affix them onto some notebooks for giveaway. Dimensions 14.5cm x 10cm with 24 pages of white unlined pages inside, made from sustainable forests, saddle-stitched onto textured cardstock covers. There are 12 different books and I'll give away 4 books (my choice) per 10 participants.

10-6

DS excitedly related the goal scoring during dinner on Friday. It was a half-field 9-a-side and he was the midfielder/defender. Odd that there were 4 goal posts but I guess anything goes during a training session. While the field in the previous school was super-duper huge, much bigger than the present, this current field is standard size and covered with synthetic grass. Which makes me wonder why DS comes home with muddy soccer shoes sometimes, LOL!

After delaying for more than a year, DS finally has a shoe bag for his soccer boots. This is an unlined drawstring bag made from vinyl coated fabric which is like umbrella material only shinier. I added a snap buckle so that DS can hook it to his backpack if he's not carrying it.

I forgot about these...

These 6 A5 saddle-stitched notebooks are part of a collection that we started last year but I forgot about them. There are some more and I'll get around to listing them on Tiffany's Shoppe.

Each book is covered using textured cardstock and has patterned endpaper. Number of pages inside is at least 76, all white and unlined and from sustainable forests. Best thing about it, cover and pages are all acid-free :-)

Soccer fan

DS' CCA is soccer. While his school team hasn't won any matches (yet!) since the team's only a year old, he's still wants to join and play. Recess time, lunchtime, anytime...so, because of this, he has to bring PE attire almost every day. Soccer's on Mon, Wed, Fri. Sports and Wellness on Tuesdays and Thursdays on some weeks.

Made 2 more laundry bags for DS to pack his uniform/PE attire. from Robert Kaufman's fishes and sorry but I can't remember who's Airport.
Go environment friendly by using a laundry bag instead of plastic ones. :-)

Going green

What's your part in going green? I'm thankful that the recycling company in our neighbourbood is so diligent in the fortnightly pickups, even on public holidays. In goes the plastic bottles and milk powder tins and boxes and plastic wrapping and almost anything that isn't perishable.
How about this for your effort in reducing, reusing and recycling?

Lunch box carrier that will the use of eliminate plastic bags, definitely reusable and can be recycled to put other stuff besides the lunch box. Oh, and it's made of easy-care cotton too!

A rose by any other name

The basic drawstring bag. What do you use this for? A ballet shoe bag, a Hot Wheels toy car collection bag, a goody bag or laundry bag? There must be multiple uses for this versatile bag.

There are 2 drawstring bags here. Can you see the smaller upon the larger in the pics on the left? I was trying to see if I could match the trains on the fabric. Made from the rest of the Thomas fabric. All 1m of it used up for the Thomas backpack earlier and these 2. Unlined so they can be washed and dried quickly.

Breaking the sound barrier

Some students wear their PE attire to school on days when they have PE. DS has to bring his to school to change so I decided to make one for him to store the PE attire 'cos his previous one had teddy bears which isn't so suitable in secondary school, ya?. He chose this cotton twill from Spotlight which we bought for a really great price during the massive sale just past. Light blue cotton cord and black cordstopper.

No dirty laundry here

Both DS and DD have lots of camps in school and church. Whenever they (mostly DD rather than DS) pack, they'll use a laundry bag to keep the clean clothes. DD had a smaller one made from Hello Kitty cloth but she wanted a larger one and chose this green flowers and leaves cotton fabric for her new laundry bag.

Made from less than 2 fat quarters that I bought from Spotlight. White acrylic cord drawstring with gray plastic cordstopper. Unlined 'cos I didn't think there was a need for a lining and besides it's easier to wash. (I just dump the clothes out and drop the laundry bag in the washing machine). Exposed seams have been pinked so that fraying is minimised.
